One of the most essential things to learn first is casting. Dad says it should be like second nature. So when you're in the water, you won't have to concentrate on your casting technique at all.

The idea is to be as smooth and quiet as possible when you cast. Bass fish like quiet areas, so if you can use a smooth cast to sneak up on them, you're off to a great start.

My dad also uses technology to help him fish, too. He discovers where the fish are all hiding out when he uses a radar. Bass fishing techniques like this are really helpful. Knowing where and how to find bass fish is one of the keys to success. They like to hide in all kinds of places, such as under fallen trees or rocky areas.
