Passive Smoking And How It Effects The Children You Live With

by Alan B. Densky, CH

Although most people are aware of the dangers of smoking, many smokers never quit. They defend their addiction by saying that they are only affecting themselves when they smoke. In reality, smoking also affects the health of those who do not smoke. Friends, children, family, co-workers, and even people who just happen to be nearby may suffer health problems from passive smoking.

First, what is passive smoke? You probably are familiar with the term "secondhand smoke" to describe the smoke inhaled by someone who is near a smoker. Secondhand smoke is a combination of smoke from a burning cigar, cigarette, or pipe, and exhaled smoke. It often has greater amounts of harmful chemicals than inhaled smoke, for instance, twice as much tar and nicotine. This puts those exposed to secondhand smoke at a greater risk of smoking related diseases and health problems.

Research into passive smoking effects on health show increased risks for lung disease, heart disease, and various ailments for people continually exposed to secondhand smoke. Health data on passive smoking show a correlation between passive smoking and cancer, with people exposed to secondhand smoke having an increased risk of heart disease and cancer. Sadly, it is not unusual for a nonsmoking spouse or child of a smoker to develop illnesses related to smoking because of passive smoking. Secondhand smoke is especially damaging to infants and children. Young children exposed to secondhand smoke are at an increased risk of respiratory infections and other respiratory illnesses. Children who have asthma are at an increased risk of having more frequent asthma attacks. Secondhand smoke may also be responsible for raising a pregnant woman's risk of having a premature or low birth weight baby.

Because of the health effects of passive smoking, smoking has been outlawed in many public places, such as restaurants and bars. Secondhand smoke can also be a problem in the workplace. Workers who inhale secondhand smoke have an increased risk of illness and even have more absences from work. This has led many offices to ban smoking on the premises, and some areas have even passed laws against smoking at work. Amongst jobs with a ban on smoking, employers report more productive employees and decreased absences from work.

Ultimately, most smokers start looking for ways to quit smoking out of concern for the health of their family. There are several methods to stop smoking, and one of the most effective ways is through the use of a quit smoking hypnosis program. Hypnosis programs for quitting smoking are developed specifically to help smokers stop smoking without suffering from withdrawal. They are especially effective because they help smokers beat the psychological aspect of the addiction, which is the hardest part to beat.

Self-hypnotherapy programs for quitting smoking are developed to teach people hypnosis techniques to help quit smoking. Among the best things about such a program is the fact that smokers learn how to stop smoking without having withdrawal. Hypnotic techniques can diminish or even eliminate withdrawal symptoms associated with quitting smoking. Another great thing is that since people are instructed on how to use hypnosis techniques on themselves, they don't have to worry about relapsing. If they ever want to smoke, they just remember and utilize the techniques that helped them quit.

Hypnosis produces many effects to help people quit smoking. It is an ideal tool for eliminating tobacco cravings while also functioning as a relaxation tool to relieve tension. It also works as a motivating tool to eliminate the mental addiction to smoking. This combination of effects gives hypnosis its effectiveness in helping people to quit smoking once and for all.

Stop smoking benefits include better health for the former smoker as well as for co-workers, friends, and family. People who want to stop smoking out of concern for their loved ones can turn to hypnosis for a safe and non-invasive tool for quitting smoking. Anyone can learn hypnosis techniques for quitting from an instructional program, and hypnosis therapy has a high rate of success because it makes quitting smoking easier and faster.
