Tips to Maintain your Skin Health

by Angelique Jodein

You may be surprised to learn that following a healthy diet you can drastically improve the condition of your skin. Surely you recall a friend or family member telling you back in high school about chocolate and French fries as a cause of acne, and dismissed it as a myth at the time. But they were right, after all. What you consume does impact your skin health, and dietary improvements can often make living with rosacea, psoriasis, dermatitis, eczema, dandruff or severe acne much easier.

Paying more attention on what you are putting into your body each day is a great starting point in recognizing possible pitfalls. Currently American people are following a sort of acne diet, typically full of refined sugars, white flour, processed and fast foods, hydrogenated oils, high-fructose corn syrup, and numerous artificial flavourings and colors. The methods of ultra-processing the aliments we consume often eliminate valuable vitamins and nutrients and replace them with chemical ingredients that may exacerbate already existing inflammatory conditions.

Some experts believe that accumulation of toxins in the body is the cause of dermatitis, acne and other skin problems. Some believe that, due to the toxic nature of many of foods commonly consumed and a weak intestinal lining, our blood can be full of poisons. The kidneys and liver cannot filter the skin fast enough to rid the body of these toxins. Other organs such as the skin take the role of the fail-over filter. And this leads to skin outbreaks.

Curiously, people suffering psoriasis appear also to have an increased incidence of food sensitivities and allergies. The most common food allergens are gluten and dairy. That may not imply you have overt celiac disease or lactose intolerance, but a milder sensitivity harder to identify. If you have psoriasis, you may want to eliminate gluten and dairy from your diet to see how your skin responds. Although a vegetarian diet is recommended, a few fruits and vegetables such as tomatoes, strawberries, and eggplant can often make symptoms worse and should be avoided. Other items like caffeine, heavily processed foods, fried foods, soda, and alcohol may cause increased inflammation, and you must absolutely avoid them if you suffer from psoriasis. If you notice any reaction from other foods, you would do well to avoid them as well.

A healthy skin diet, rich in fruits and vegetables and their juices, plus the adequate natural skin care products, can help to mitigate some of the discomfort associated not only with psoriasis, but other skin ailments as well, such as rosacea and acne. In addition to free water amounts, at least 8 daily glasses, people should aim to fill most of their diet with fresh fruits such as grapes, mangoes and peaches, and vegetables such as squash, cucumbers and lettuce. Very limited portions of meats and low-fat dairy products, eggs, and olive oil are also recommended. Eating these types of aliments is not only beneficial to those suffering from skin ailments, but is also a great method for people not currently affected to maintain their healthy skin and avoid future ailments from appearing.

Prevent the consequences of aging and several skin conditions applying a natural skin care solution elaborated only with natural ingredients.
